Course description

Da Vinci School - Drawing CompassCo

Compass Techniques

Straightedge (ruler) and compass construction is as old as the widespread possibly universal practise of marking out simple forms and measures on the Earth just with pegs and chords. The Ancient Greeks, who laid the foundation for geometry, used a graphical approach to solve mathematical problems, by drawing shapes instead of arithmetic. With the invention of the drawing compass by Galileo Galilei we are now stepping into the footsteps of those ancient minds and explore shape and form just from a circle and line.

This free mirco course course is for those beginners who are new to compass construction. Learn how to properly work with a drawing compass and straightedge and learn a few simple construction principles to master the practical study of geometry as a visual tool to grasp the world.
